Plans in hand for competition…

Pembrokeshire is set to host the South Wales Sheepdog Trials Association’s nursery final this year.

Fourteen members of the county’s sheepdog committee met last week to make plans for the trial being held on December 5th.

It will be the third time Pembrokeshire has hosted the final and it is hoped to stage this year’s event at a venue near Mathry, in the north of the county where the Association Open has previously been held.

Further plans to appoint sheep stewards, timekeepers and so on, will be made at Pembrokeshire’s AGM later in the summer.

Chairman Hywel Davies also confirmed that there will be no trialling at this year’s Pembrokeshire County Show although the agricultural society has said the land would be available to stage a trial out of show week.

However, the costs of transporting sheep to the showground would probably make holding the trial unviable. The possibility of holding more open trials at other venues in the county was also discussed.

Upcoming Pembrokeshire trials:

August 17th: St Dogmaels and Crosswell sheepdog trials. Both trials will hold National and South Wales classes. Catering will be available at St Dogmaels.
