Charity trial success…The new trialling season began with celebrations at Coedkernew as it raised £1,000 at its 21st trial. Competitors started arriving on the field at Spring Court Farm from 6.30am for the 8.30am start. More than 70 dogs were entered on the day, with American handler Joyce Geier travelling from London to compete. In the morning session Rob Lewis, Lisvane, was first to run with Tysswg Crystal, and earned himself second place in the open, down 12 points.
Rob was beaten by Colin Gordon, of Gower, who judged the second session. With his dog Joe, they lost 10 points and made it a double by also winning the novice. Organisers Colin and Mary Evans will donate the funds to this year’s chosen charity, Macmillan Nurses. Mary Evans said: “We’d like to thank everyone who has supported us over the years. Without them we couldn’t do it. We enjoy holding the trial and seeing people come out after the winter to give their dogs a run.” Since the first trial in 1987 they have raised more than £15,000 for worthy causes.
